Fujifilm has a new square instant camera aimed at people who want prints in their hands before the party ends. On October 13, 2026, Fujifilm’s U.S. newsroom announced the instax SQUARE 2, with an MSRP of $119.95, plus Soft Haze SQUARE film at an MSRP of $18.99. U.S. availability was expected in late October 2026. The camera comes in Slate Blue, Misty White and Brick Red.

We shoot San Antonio events and headshots on Nikon Z9 and Z8 bodies, and those cameras have been our primary kit since each one launched. This post is not a claim that we run Instax as our main event setup. It is a practical look at what Fujifilm announced, and why a square instant camera still matters for guest keepsakes, photo-booth moments and party prints next to a full digital gallery.

What Fujifilm announced for the instax SQUARE 2

Based on Fujifilm’s U.S. newsroom release and the product page at instaxus.com, the main points are:

  • Automatic Exposure and Automatic Flash. The camera handles exposure and flash for you, which helps guests who are not photographers.
  • Selfie Mirror. A mirror on the front makes it easier to frame a selfie before you press the shutter.
  • Twist lens modes. Close-up, Landscape and Standard let you twist the lens to match how close you are standing.
  • Mood Filter Switch. Warm, Cool or Off. Warm pushes a cozy look; Cool cools the color; Off leaves the look alone.
  • Soft Haze SQUARE film. Fujifilm describes reduced saturation and contrast, a softer look and glowing highlights. Soft Haze SQUARE film carries an MSRP of $18.99.
  • Price and timing. Camera MSRP is $119.95. Fujifilm said U.S. availability was expected in late October 2026.

A Japan press update dated October 27, 2026, put the Japan launch at November 13, 2026, and highlighted the same Mood Filter and Landscape Mode story along with Soft Haze film. So the feature set is consistent across markets even if local launch dates differ.

Why square instant prints still fit at events

Digital galleries are how we deliver the full story after a wedding, quinceañera, conference or corporate party. Instant prints play a different role:

  • Something guests can hold tonight. A square print on a table, stuck on a fridge or tucked into a purse is a keepsake before anyone opens a gallery link.
  • Guest photo-booth energy. Put a simple station near the reception table or dance floor, leave film and a trash bin for tabs, and people take turns without waiting on a photographer.
  • Party print flavor. Soft Haze’s softer look and Mood Filters give a different mood than a clean digital file, which some hosts want on purpose for fun shots.
  • Complement, not replacement. Instant prints are great for a few dozen fun frames. They do not replace a planned digital shoot that covers vows, speeches, group formals and the whole room.

Practical tips if you add Instax to a celebration

  • Stage it. Give guests a small backdrop, good room light and a clear place to leave finished prints so they do not pile up on the cake table.
  • Stock enough film. Soft Haze and standard SQUARE packs go fast once people start sharing the camera. Count on more than you think you need.
  • Explain the twist lens. Close-up for faces at arm’s length, Standard for most party shots, Landscape when you step back for a wider room view.
  • Try Mood Filter once. Warm for candlelit rooms, Cool for a brighter look, Off if you want the film’s natural character.
  • Keep your pro coverage separate. Hire a photographer for the moments that matter, and treat Instax as the guest keepsake layer.

If you are shopping for square instant gear, you can see the Fujifilm instax SQUARE cameras at Adorama and compare Soft Haze or other SQUARE film options in the same search.

What this means for San Antonio event and headshot clients

If you are planning a wedding reception, quinceañera, birthday, conference dinner or corporate party in San Antonio, you can pair a full digital gallery with a small instant-print station for guests. We handle the planned coverage on professional Nikon bodies so the important moments are sharp and delivered cleanly. Instant cameras are a fun add-on for keepsakes, not a substitute for that coverage.

If you want ideas for guest photo moments alongside a full event gallery, or you have a headshot day coming up, reach out to Grey Bug Photography and we will talk through timing, lighting and delivery.
