Sigma FP2 full-frame mirrorless camera product photo

Sigma just announced the FP2 — a slimmed-down return of its famously small full-frame mirrorless body — with shipping expected around November 11. The new camera keeps the minimalist vibe but steps up to a 24.5MP partially stacked sensor, 6K open-gate video, a tilt screen, and a much deeper stills buffer than the original FP.

For working photographers, the headline isn’t the brand nostalgia — it’s size and speed. Event and headshot work often means moving through tight rooms, low light, and long days. A body that stays light while still delivering full-frame files is the kind of tool talk clients never see but that shows up in sharper, more natural images.

What matters for real sessions: the FP2’s hybrid autofocus and bigger buffer help when expressions change fast (think summit headshots or reception candids). The tilt screen helps when you’re shooting from awkward angles without making the subject feel crowded. And 6K open gate is more cinema-leaning, but it signals where hybrid still/video kits are heading for businesses that want both coverage and short clips from one kit.

At Grey Bug Photography in San Antonio, we care less about collecting every new release and more about whether gear helps people look like themselves under real event lighting. News like the FP2 is a reminder that smaller, smarter cameras keep opening doors for cleaner portraits and less intrusive event coverage.
