Westcott has redesigned its popular Rapid Box Switch softboxes into a new Fold-Flat line, according to reports this week from PetaPixel and LooksLikeFilm. The big change is in the name: these modifiers open in about a second and then fold flat for transport. For anyone who sets up portable headshot stations at conferences, summits and corporate events, faster setup and a smaller bag are real benefits.

What’s new in the Rapid Box Switch Fold-Flat line

  • Nine sizes: 2, 3 and 4 ft octas; 1×3, 1×4 and 1×6 ft strips; and 2×3, 3×3 and 3×4 ft rectangles.
  • Quick setup: Westcott says each box opens in roughly one second and collapses flat when you’re done.
  • Everything in the box: each kit includes a Bowens-mount Switch insert, a 55-degree egg-crate grid, inner and outer 1-stop diffusion panels and a carry case.
  • Switch system compatibility: existing Switch inserts for other mounts still work, and the included Bowens insert fits Westcott lights like the FJ800, FJ400, FJ250 and L120-B.
  • Neutral light: a silver interior with dual neutral diffusion, so the light stays clean for skin tones.

Pricing and availability

Westcott lists the 2 ft octa, 1×3 strip and 2×3 rectangle at $99.90. The 3 ft octa, 1×4 strip and 3×3 at $119.90, and the 4 ft octa, 1×6 strip and 3×4 at $139.90. The 3 ft octa replaces the older Rapid Box Switch Octa-M. Check current stock before you plan a shoot around a specific size.

Why this matters for San Antonio event and headshot work

At a typical small business summit or corporate headshot day, the photographer is often setting up in a hotel ballroom, a conference room or a hallway corner with very little lead time. Every minute spent wrestling with rods and speed rings is a minute not spent dialing in the light. Here are the practical takeaways:

  • Faster load-in: a modifier that opens in a second makes it easier to get a headshot station running before attendees start lining up.
  • Size choices for real rooms: a 3 ft octa is a flattering, compact key light for headshots. Strips are great for hair or rim light when the backdrop sits close to a wall.
  • Grids help in busy venues: the included grid keeps light off the background and away from neighboring booths, which helps when you share space with an expo floor.
  • Consistency for big batches: neutral diffusion and repeatable setup make it easier to match the look across dozens of headshots, so editing goes faster.
  • Travel-friendly: folding flat means less room in the car and easier carry-in for multi-city event tours across Texas.

Our take

Quick, packable light shaping is one of the best upgrades for anyone doing on-location headshots and event portraits. Westcott’s Fold-Flat redesign targets the exact pain points of event days: setup time, bag space and consistent light. Planning a headshot station for your team, conference or summit in San Antonio?
